My essay, “Ama,” published in Crab Orchard Review, has been chosen as a Notable for The Best American Essays 2010. Although, I did not get selected for the final book, I am proud to be among such authors as Barry Lopez, Susan Orlean, Paul Theroux, Naomi Klein and many others who also made the Notable List.
“Ama” is based on a chapter in my memoir-in-progress, Sacred Threads. It was also a finalist for the John Guyon Literary Nonfiction Prize. The essay is only available in print from COR, but if you’re interested, I wrote a bit about Ama in a blog post last year and also posted a brief excerpt from the essay. And, of course, I will have lots more on Ama and Nepal in the final book (which I’m going to get back to as soon as I finish this post).
